Done....finally!!!

Jambo my fellow supporters,

It feels amazing to finally see 104 display on the miles tracker. It took a tad longer than I anticipated but it feels great nonetheless!

I would like to extend a special thanks to all my followers for their support and generous donations, you have made a difference in the lives of AIDS orphans.

The adrenaline junkie that I am, I am already planning my next exciting endeavor - spending News Years Day on top of the worlds tallest free standing mountain! That's right, I along with a few other enthusiasts are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro from Dec 27 to Jan 2 2011. Join us as we conquer the roof of Africa to raise awareness and raise money to end the vicious cycle of AIDS that engulfs orphans in Africa. You can be a part of the excitement by following our blog on: http://www.peak4poverty.org/kili-climb-2010

Ahsante sana once again :)

After a looooooooong silence......

Hello my fellow supporters, I am sure some of you are wondering why the silence.....well I have been keeping my head low and running fast to try catching up with my goal!! This week I logged in a total of 13.2 miles which my best record so far......! After 6 weeks, I have finally figured out how to run on a treadmill, I know....I am a slow learner :)

I have 33 miles left to go and about 11 days so that is 3 miles a day........I guess the next 11 days should be exciting!

I am back!!!

Wow! The Peak 4 Poverty hiking trip to Pikes Peak was a huge success..... we had an amazing group and the weather couldn't have been better. We hiked a total of 26 miles, elevation of 14,100 feet and made it to the top!

I can finally feel my legs again and plan on hitting the track soon......have a little over a month to go so its going to be pretty intense from here on...!

Managed a short run today after taking a 5 day hiatus- decided to give my ankle a rest as it has been acting up. Will need to step it up next week as I will be taking a one week break from running. Will be hiking up Pikes Peak in Colorado with 14 other Peak 4 Poverty enthusiasts this weekend and need to conserve my energy :)

1 week down, 7.4 to go!

Just got back from a 3.2 mile run... was amazing! Decided to take a friends advice and invested in a new pair of running shoes. Best decision ever!

Feels great to be back to running outdoors. Weather was perfect, the only caveat is that I swallowed a mouthful of mosquitoes- there goes my protein requirement for the day ;)
The wind made the run back home rather challenging, guess there is a reason why Chicago is known as the windy city!

Voila!

Hit the gym after dinner and logged in my first miles. I must say, it feels great! Not used to running on the treadmill so was a different experience. Might just stick to running outdoors.

Here is to another 100 miles........cheers!

Distractions!!!

My plans for running this past weekend got shot down by my latest, cutest, youngest supporter ;)

Drove to Lawrence, Kansas to hang out with some friends and was hoping to log in some miles up until I met my friends adorable son.....was difficult to tear myself away from him. I am sure you will agree with me after looking at his pic :)

Guess that means I need to step it up for the rest of this week.

TGIF!!!

I have never been so excited to see Friday as I am today! It has been a long week and I am glad it's the long weekend.
To jump start my fund raising efforts, I started selling the Peak 4 Poverty wrist bands for $4 a piece. It was quite a hit at work! I was pleasantly surprised to see that a lot of people have a soft spot when it comes to AIDS orphans.

I officially start logging in my miles tomorrow......!

Seven more days to go!!!

I start running 4 red ribbon next week Saturday and the support that I have already received has me very excited!! The weather in Chicago right now is perfect for running and I am hoping to make the most of it before winter rolls in and I have to run on the treadmill.

The countdown has begun!
I forgot to mention in my previous post that I shall start counting my miles as of Sept 4th. I got my first donation and it is so fulfilling to know that I am one step closer in helping a child get the education they deserve! I thank you Afzal on behalf of Peak4Poverty for your generous donation!

Karibu! Join me in my latest endeavor to run 104 miles in 8.4 weeks to raise $1,004. Why am I doing this? To promote awareness of the millions of AIDS orphans in Africa that lack the basic necessities such as a good education.

HIV/AIDS is the greatest epidemic that
Africa faces. Did you know that a stunning 13 million out of the 15 million AIDS orphans worldwide are in Africa? That one in five adults in sub-Saharan Africa is HIV positive!
I along with several other Peak4Poverty enthusiasts have a personal goal to help raise money for the AIDS orphans. You can follow their progress on http://www.peak4poverty.org/r4r-project

The money that I raise will be donated to AIDS orphanages and will be put towards buying books, school supplies and paying tuition fees.
Every dollar donated takes us one step closer in helping the less fortunate!

Cheers for visiting my blog and stay posted as I relay my progress with y'all.
